Half-Tuition Scholarships for Spring 2012 at the Siena Art Institute

The Siena Art Institute is delighted to offer in its first semester of SPRING 2012 five half-tuition scholarships based on need and merit.

Finally a high quality SCHOLARSHIP opportunity for art students from all over the world wanting to be involved in contemporary art from the heart of Italy: Siena in Tuscany! Join students from around the world for a semester-long course of study (January 28-May 17 2012).

The Siena Art Institute is based in the historic center of Siena, Italy, a stunning medieval city in the heart of Tuscany.

All students are enrolled in our Art and Society Seminar, Critique Seminar, Italian Language and Culture Course, and three Elective Courses of your choosing, including Book Arts, Painting, Photography, Printmaking, Art History, Digital Multimedia and Installation, and more. All courses will be taught in English, and participants are required to be fluent in English so they can fully participate in group critiques, class discussions, etc.

Along with your coursework, as a student at the Siena Art Institute, you will also be able to work alongside our visiting artists: receiving feedback from them about your work as they offer you insight into the daily processes of their own artistic practices. Our Visiting Artist Program invites professional artists & writers for month-long residencies. The following Artists and Writer have been selected for the Spring 2012 semester:

Spring 2012:
Ellen Altfest (Visiting Artist, Painting. NYC, USA) February 2012
Kia Corthron (Visiting Artist, Writing. USA) March 2012
Rolando Castellon (Visiting Artist, Sculpture, Drawing, and Painting, USA and Nicaragua) April 2012
Yvonne Jacquette (Visiting Artist, Painting. USA) May 2012
Laurie Fendrich (Visiting Artist, Painting. USA) June 2012

Scholarship recipients, like all participants in the Siena Art Institute program, will have an individual studio space within a shared studio room at the Siena Art Institute, located in a historic building in the heart of Siena. For more information about our program, please visit our website at www.sienaart.org

Please note that the scholarship only covers half the cost of tuition, and you will still be responsible for other expenses including accommodation, permit of stay fee, and travel expenses. Accommodations are available in either a home stay with a local family or in a private or shared apartment. For more information please visit our website: http://www.sienaart.org/pb-tuition--fees.html

Although you may have already completed your university studies, we hope you may be interested in this semester-long to further your artistic development. It is not necessary to currently be enrolled in an outside university program to participate in the Siena Art Institute course of study: you may study with us for a semester as an independent artist seeking further artistic instruction and enrichment.

The Siena Art Institute ALSO has a strong commitment to deaf accessibility. Our spring semester will be fully deaf-accessible, with professional ASL interpreters provided for classes, critiques, lectures, presentations, and other events.

Please note that these half-tuition scholarships are only valid for the Spring 2012 semester. Please contact us for more information.
