Si inaugura lunedì 27 Maggio 2013 alla Galleria Alessandra Bonomo la mostra di Joan Jonas.
In questa personale, l’artista americana presenta i suoi ultimi
disegni, immagini raffiguranti pesci e altri animali con inchiostro blu
giapponese, immagini speculari di diversi colori e altri disegni
ottenuti con l’uso del ghiaccio.In occasione della mostra, l’artista
trasformerà gli spazi della galleria con i suoi walldrawings,
l’installazione dei disegni, le strutture metalliche luminose e i video.
Nata a New York,
studente presso la Columbia University, fa parte dell’avanguardia
artistica degli anni ‘70 con artisti quali Andy Warhol, Bruce Nauman,
Lawrence Weiner e altri. Nel suo percorso ha sperimentato linguaggi
diversi fino ad approdare ad un’idea di arte come processo esplorando le
infinite potenzialità dello spazio e del suono. In seguito introduce il
video nelle sue performance che, profondamente legate alle tematiche
femministe, riesaminano il ruolo della donna in una dimensione
universale. La grande produzione dell’artista comprende performance,
disegni, fotografie, video e oggetti; dagli anni Ottanta, introdurrà nel
suo lavoro riferimenti alla mitologia e agli archetipi dalle saghe
medievali e dai poeti islandesi in particolare, integrando il suo
interesse per i miti e le fiabe a quello per gli studi antropologici
dello storico e teorico dell’arte Aby Warburg.
Joan Jonas vive a lavora a New York e insegna al Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Tra le sue ultime mostre: Documenta(13) a Kassel nel 2012 con il progetto Reanimation (In a Meadow), Live your question now, presso il Mackintosh Museum, Glasgow; Off the Wall Part 1: Thirty Performative Actions, Whitney Museum of American Art, New York (2011). Performance 7: Mirage by Joan Jonas, Museum of Modern Art, New York, (2009).

The exhibition presents, Joan Jonas’ latest images and drawings depicting fishes and other animals with Japanese blue ink, mirror images of different colors and other drawings made with the use of ice.
During the exhibition, the artist will transform the gallery space with her walldrawings, drawings installation, light metal structures and videos.
Joan Jonas is regarded as one of the most important American artists of the late 20th century. She was born in New York, where she studied at Columbia
University and began her creative career as a sculptor. During the 70s, she hit the international scene as a major figure of video and performance art.
From the 80s onwards she introduces in her work references to mythology and archetypes from medieval sagas, in particular Icelandic poets, integrating her interest in myths and fairy tales with the anthropological studies of the historian and theorist Aby Warburg.
