La Galleria Umberto Di Marino è lieta di presentare, martedì 11 febbraio 2020, la personale di Ana Manso dal titolo Tomorrow's weather.
I temi cari alla pratica pittorica dell'artista vengono declinati, questa volta, attraverso dipinti, sculture ed installazioni ambientali per dare forma ad un'unica sintesi di significato. Ciò che attira l'interesse di Ana Manso è la sfida insita nel rendere fruibile l'idea di indefinitezza del tempo futuro. Una premessa che può gettarci inesorabilmente nell'incerto momento storico in cui siamo immersi, ma che lascia anche la speranza di non poterne prevedere eventuali sviluppi inattesi.
Sin dall'enunciazione del titolo, infatti, viene svelata la contraddizione di una società in affanno nel tenere sotto controllo il futuro attraverso la previsione di fenomeni che esistono al di là della volontà e dell'intelletto umani. La mostra, dunque, è un invito a concentrarsi sull'intensità del momento presente. Elevandosi da ogni speculazione cercata dai toni violenti dei mass-media e volta ad indurre nel panico e nell'immobilismo, il visitatore è richiamato a ritrovare la sua capacità di connettersi con ciò che lo circonda, con il suo intuito e infine con la propria spiritualità. I wall drawing sono posizionati al di sopra dell'orizzonte degli occhi, per permettere a chi entra nello spazio della galleria di alzare lo sguardo ed astrarsi dall'agitazione quotidiana. Le forme curvilinee accennano a simboli astrali da interrogare, affidandosi alle leggi del Cosmo, ritrovando serenità in una dimensione più fatalistica. Tutto invita al silenzio e alla contemplazione, ricreando un'atmosfera di austerità quasi sacra, accentuata dalla ripresa di colori e motivi architettonici tipici dei luoghi di culto di varie religioni. Che il futuro sia o meno rintracciabile nei presagi celesti, viene suggerita l'ipotesi di affidarsi al caso, così come inteso nell'antichità: un presagio enigmatico ed imperscrutabile per il quale diventa determinante l'azione nel presente. Qui s'innesta il legame con la pittura che, da sempre nel lavoro di Ana Manso, è il risultato di movimenti e flussi di coscienza registrati istantaneamente sulla tela; stratificazioni di singoli gesti, ore e giorni che assumono senso solo nell'unità di tempo e di spazio offerta loro dalla compresenza sul supporto materiale. Allo stesso modo la scansione di un ritmo naturale e paziente nel raccogliere i suoi frutti è evocato dalla presenza dei cappelli nelle sculture, che richiamano il contesto rurale orientandosi come satelliti secondo logiche determinate, le cui ombre e traiettorie rispondono ai movimenti del sole, oltre che alla posizione di chi li indossa.
Tomorrow's weather è un interrogativo, più che un incipit, formulato per restare sospeso senza una risposta precisa e per offrire l'opportunità di abbracciare l'imprevedibile, nella certezza di essere in unità con i destini del resto del creato.

Galleria Umberto Di Marino is pleased to present Ana Manso’s solo show Tomorrow's weather on Tuesday 11 February 2020.
The most popular themes in the artist’s pictorial practice are explored through paintings, sculptures and environmental installations to create a single body of meaning. Ana Manso is attracted by the challenge implicit in making the idea of the indefinite nature of future time accessible. It is a premise that can plunge us inexorably into the uncertain historical moment in which we are immersed, although it also leaves the hope of not being able to foresee the eventual unexpected results. The very title reveals the contradiction of a society anxiously trying to keep control of the future by forecasting phenomena that exist, regardless of human will and intellect. The exhibition is therefore an invitation to focus on the intensity of the present moment. Rising above all forms of speculation sought by the violent language of the mass-media aimed at causing panic and immobilism, visitors are invited to rediscover their capacity to connect with their surroundings, their intuition and, lastly, their own spirituality. The wall drawings are placed above the eye-line to encourage people visiting the gallery to look up and to leave everyday anxieties behind. The curvilinear forms allude to astral symbols to be explored, entrusting oneself to the laws of the Cosmos, rediscovering serenity in a more fatalistic dimension. Everything induces silence and contemplation, recreating an atmosphere of almost sacred austerity, accentuated by the use of colours and architectural motifs from the cult sites of various religions. Whether or not the future can be traced in celestial predictions, the idea is mooted of putting one’s trust in fortune, as it was in antiquity: an enigmatic and unfathomable forecast for which action in the present becomes crucial. This is the point where a link emerges with painting which, as always in Ana Manso’s work, is the result of movements and flows of consciousness recorded instantaneously on the canvas; stratifications of individual gestures, hours and days which only take on meaning within the unity of time and space offered to them by their simultaneous presence on the material support. In the same way, the scanning of a natural and patient rhythm in harvesting the fruits is evoked by the presence of hats in sculptures. The hats allude to a rural context, orienting themselves as satellites according to specific logics, whose shadows and trajectories respond to the movements of the Sun, as well as the position of the wearer.
Tomorrow's weather is an interrogative, rather than an incipit. It is formulated to remain suspended without a precise answer and to offer the opportunity to embrace the unexpected, in the certainty of being in unity with the destinies of the rest of creation.
