Galleria Continua è lieta di annunciare l’apertura di un nuovo spazio espositivo in Francia: a 15 anni dall’apertura di Galleria Continua Les Moulins nella campagna parigina, apre un’ulteriore sede, questa volta nel cuore della capitale francese, nel Marais.
Galleria Continua Paris – 800 metri quadri dislocati su due piani, con un’infilata di finestre e vetrine che corrono all’angolo tra Rue du Temple e Rue Michel-le-Comte, a due passi dal Centre Pompidou - si proporrà come una situazione un po’ fuori dagli schemi, aperta alla sperimentazione, incline a vivere lo spazio al di là dei consueti canoni allestitivi; in corso d’opera si doterà di un caffe, uno store e una sala dedicata a incontri e talk. “Il progetto nasce dall’idea di creare uno spazio accogliente, un luogo conviviale, flessibile, inclusivo, accessibile a tutti, architettonicamente non omologato ai canoni del white cube; un’officina di linguaggi contemporanei che coniughi arte, socialità e cultura. Un ambiente aperto alla multiculturalità dove persone con storie, risorse e interessi differenti possano incontrarsi anche semplicemente per leggere una rivista o per scambiare impressioni, esperienze, progettualità”, affermano Mario Cristiani, Lorenzo Fiaschi e Maurizio Rigillo, soci fondatori di Galleria Continua.
“Truc à faire”, il titolo dell’evento che dà il via a questo nuovo progetto, esprime l’esigenza dei tre galleristi di rispondere a un richiamo contingente e imprescindibile: “una cosa da fare”.
A curare la prima mostra sarà un artista, JR, con una mostra evento che in modo inaspettato si approprierà dei locali che fino a poco tempo fa ospitavano una rivendita all’ingrosso di articoli in pelle. Le opere scelte da JR s’insinueranno in ogni anfratto, conquistando le centinaia di scaffalature che ne occupano le pareti, con la dichiarata volontà di non modificare la struttura originaria ma piuttosto di svelarne la storia prima di una straordinaria nuova metamorfosi: “uno spazio dove si vendono opere d’arte, a metà tra una cattedrale e un supermercato, è un luogo dove ci si avvicina all’infinito e dove si acquistano oggetti di consumo. Sono abituato a lavorare con gallerie d’arte e anche a stare in strada e parlare con i passanti. Per questo nuovo spazio, ho voluto unire i due universi, creare un luogo abitato dall’arte dove veniamo a camminare, dove torniamo qualche settimana dopo per scoprire un nuovo universo, dove incontriamo opere di artisti di generazioni diverse, provenienti dai cinque continenti: da Ai Weiwei, a Daniel Buren, Anish Kapoor, Michelangelo Pistoletto e Pascale Martine Tayou, solo per fare alcuni nomi. Vorrei che fosse uno spazio di discussione, incontro, sorprese, dove compriamo un libro che scopriamo se è firmato dal suo autore una volta aperto, dove possiamo prendere un buon caffè italiano in un ambiente in movimento, dove ci immergiamo nelle opere presenti” (JR).A distanza di alcune settimane dall’inaugurazione in collaborazione con MBL architectes lo spazio sarà portato a nudo: rimosse le strutture di stoccaggio e le controsoffittature mostrerà ‘la pelle’, con tutte le sue cicatrici e i segni del recente passato. A quel punto sarà pronto ad ospitare una seconda mostra.
Attenti a conservare la patina del tempo e le peculiarità dei locali, i successivi interventi di ristrutturazione procederanno di pari passo con l’attività della galleria segnando un continuum tra arte e vita.

Galleria Continua ha aperto a San Gimignano nel 1990, su iniziativa di tre amici: Mario Cristiani, Lorenzo Fiaschi e Maurizio Rigillo. Trovando sede negli spazi di un ex cinema, Galleria Continua si è affermata e ha prosperato in una posizione del tutto inaspettata, lontano dalle grandi città e dai centri urbani ultramoderni, in un borgo - San Gimignano - ricco di storia, senza tempo. Questa scelta del luogo ha permesso di sviluppare nuove forme di dialogo e simbiosi tra geografie inaspettate: rurali e industriali, locali e globali, arte del passato e arte di oggi, artisti famosi e emergenti. Rimanendo fedele a uno spirito di evoluzione perpetua e impegnato a interessare il più vasto pubblico possibile nell’arte contemporanea, Galleria Continua ha costruito una forte identità attraverso i suoi legami e le sue esperienze. Questa identità è fondata su due valori: generosità e altruismo, che si trovano al centro di tutti i rapporti con gli artisti, il pubblico in generale e il suo sviluppo nel suo complesso. Galleria Continua è stata la prima galleria straniera con un programma internazionale ad aprire in Cina nel 2004 e tre anni dopo, nel 2007, ha inaugurato un nuovo sito particolare per le creazioni di grandi dimensioni - Les Moulins - nella campagna parigina. Nel 2015 la galleria ha intrapreso nuovi percorsi, aprendo uno spazio a L’Avana, a Cuba, dedicato a progetti culturali volti a superare ogni frontiera. Galleria Continua è un desiderio di continuità tra i secoli, l’aspirazione ad avere una parte nella scrittura della storia del presente, una storia sensibile alle pratiche creative contemporanee e che custodisce il legame tra passato e futuro, e tra individui e geografie diverse e inusuali. Nel 2020 ha inaugurato una nuova sede espositiva a Roma all’interno del The St. Regis Rome e una in Brasile, Galleria Continua São Paulo, all’interno del complesso sportivo di Pacaembu.

Galleria Continua is pleased to announce the opening of a new exhibition space in France: 15 years after the opening of Galleria Continua Les Moulins in the Parisian countryside, another space opens, this time in the heart of the French capital in Le Marais.
Galleria Continua Paris – 800 square metres on two floors, with a string of windows that run around the corner between Rue du Temple and Rue Michel-le-Comte, a stone’s throw from the Centre Pompidou – an unconventional situation, open to experimentation, it encourages a living of the space that is beyond the usual standards of set-up; throughout the course of its construction, it will be equipped with a café, a store and a room dedicated to meetings and talks. “The project comes from the idea of creating a welcoming space, a convivial place, that is flexible, inclusive, accessible to all and does not architecturally adhere to the canons of the white cube; a workshop of contemporary languages that brings together art, sociality and culture. An environment open to multiculturality where people with stories, resources and different interests can meet even just to read a magazine or to exchange thoughts, experiences and plans”, state Mario Cristiani, Lorenzo Fiaschi and Maurizio Rigillo, Galleria Continua’s founders.
“Truc à faire”, the title of the event that kicks off this new project, expresses the need of the three gallerists to respond to an incidental and inescapable call: “one thing to do”.
JR curates the first exhibition, an exhibition event that will occupy, in an unexpected way, this location that previously housed a wholesale resale leather goods activity. The works chosen by JR will creep into every nook and cranny, conquering the hundreds of shelves that inhabit the walls, with the declared desire not to modify the original structure but rather to reveal its history before then undergoing an extraordinary metamorphosis: “a space where art works are sold, halfway between a cathedral and a supermarket, it’s a place where we get closer to infinity and where we can buy consumer objects. For this new space, I wanted to bring together two universes, create a place that is lived by art, where we come to walk, where we encounter works by artists of many different generations, coming from 5 continents: from Ai Weiwei, to Daniel Buren, Anish Kapoor, Michelangelo Pistoletto and Pascale Marthine Tayou, to name a few. I would like it to be a space for discussion, meetings, surprises, where we buy a book and when we open it, we discover it’s signed by the author, where we can have an Italian coffee in a dynamic environment, where we immerse ourselves in the works that are present” (JR)
Shortly after the opening, MBL architects will strip back the space: removing the internal structures will show the bones of the building, including the signs of its past. It will then be ready to host a second exhibition.While preserving the patina of time and the unique features of the premises, the subsequent renovations - again by the group of French architects - will proceed hand in hand with the activity of the gallery, marking a continuum between art and life.

Galleria Continua opened in San Gimignano in 1990, on the initiative of three friends: Mario Cristiani, Lorenzo Fiaschi and Maurizio Rigillo. Determining its headquarters in the spaces of a former cinema, Galleria Continua has established itself and thrived in a completely unexpected position, far from big cities and ultramodern urban centres, in a village - San Gimignano - a timeless place that’s rich in history. Galleria Continua was the first foreign gallery with an international program to open in China in 2004 and three years later, in 2007, it inaugurated a new special site for large interventions - Les Moulins, in the Parisian countryside. In 2015 the gallery embarked on new paths, opening a space in Havana, Cuba, dedicated to cultural projects aimed at overcoming all frontiers. Galleria Continua represents a desire for continuity between the centuries, the aspiration to have a part in the writing of the history of the present, a history that is sensitive to contemporary creative practices and which preserves the link between past and future, and between different and unusual individuals and geographies. In 2020 it inaugurated a new exhibition venue in Rome inside The St. Regis Rome and one in Brazil, Galleria Continua São Paulo, situated inside the Pacaembu sports complex.
